Jen Norpchan's Gourd Creations

Jen Norpchan’s gourd art consists of a little of this, a little of that…a whimsy. The whimsical characteristic of her gourds fascinate and delight everyone. She is enchanted by the imperfect nature of gourds and the fact that no two are alike. The gourd is a magical canvas: its shape and patterns guide the artist to what it will become, ‘each piece unique’.

Cultures from all over the world have used gourds in all parts of their lives, from the functional to the spiritual and aesthetic.  Emerging from beautiful seeds, the gourd dries for several months in the sun.

Jen’s gourd’s start to synthesize what is in her…a daydream during a hike, the energy release after a day at work, a funny cartoon, a good laugh, or a visit to an art museum.

Her real appreciation is for the illusive "Gourd Hunt.” She will hunt for hours to find the perfect gourd. Each piece is unique… a way of going to that other place where the mind escapes, shoulders relax, and the breathing comes easy.

She may carve the gourd with high-speed drills or by hand; embellish with clay or resin, “paint” the gourd with acrylics, dyes, shoe polish, water color pencils & crayons, wax; even design them with armatures, and housing (internal engineering) all to create her wonderful creature’s that bring her as much happiness as she hope’s they do for you.

Jen tells us she is grateful for the left brained, intellectually stimulating world in which she spends some of her time as an architectural designer…but grateful for the enlightenment and creativity that allows her right brain to rise.

Latest Spirit Tiles by Houston Llew

Houston Llews latest Spirtiles are:

Secret Garden #261 by author Joseph Campbell “Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where once there were only walls”.

Flourish #274 by author Marcel Proust “Let us be grateful to those who make us happy…they are the gardeners who make our souls blossom”.

From the Heart by author Anne Admirer “I couldn’t decide on balloons or flowers, so I got you both!”.

Mushroom #276 by author Lewis Carroll “I knew who I was when I got up this morning, but I’ve changed a few times since then”.

Each Spiritile is made by hand using copper and finely ground glass called “frit” by layering colorful glass frit onto a copper canvas using stencils, sifters and playing cards: the image and story start to come to light. Fired in a kiln and colled under a planchet, the flat is then rolled with a pin to create “crazing”. These natural cracks increase the light refraction and magnify the luminescence of the glass. Each fired flat is then molded around a solid frame to create a Spiritile. Wrapping the story, author and Houston’s signature around the sides.

Artist Tyler Abshier has three new oil paintings for everyone to enjoy, these three pieces feature San Francisco, take a look at these gorgeous pieces and look around your space to see if you have room for this accomplished artist in your home or office.

Tyler’s oil paintings are his depictions and interpretations of the California landscape, following in the footsteps of great landscape painters who worked throughout the state in the early 1800s. As a native Californian, Tyler found his voice for inspiration with his impressionistic brushstrokes and sharp-edged clarity, that are infused with his personal elements. He brings a clear-eyed realism and sense of space that is imbued with his love of the journey, the joy of discovery, and the quiet, contemplative beauty that moves his spirit.

Artist Randy Honerlah New to Studio Seven Arts

California artist, Randy Honerlah, grew up in the San Francisco bay area and currently resides in the Sierra foothills with his wife Sharon.

Randy has been painting since he was a boy. He studied art in college and with various artists and workshops. After 35 plus years working in the semiconductor industry he is now retired and painting as inspiration strikes. He has won many local and national awards for his paintings in acrylic. His subject matter ranges from landscapes, floral, animals and abstract. His works are in private collections from California to Hawaii to Europe, as well as corporate collections. Randy is a Signature Artist in the International Society of Acrylic Painter.

Past artworks have been both representational and abstract: in oils, watercolors and acrylics. Today he focuses mainly on contemporary abstracts in acrylic medium. Through his use of vivid color and composition he enjoys manipulating shapes, textures and flowing colors – stirring the human emotion and placing the viewer in an unfamiliar perspective. Acrylics allow for a timelier layering of color and texture. Most of Randy’s paintings have seven or more paint layers and all are finished with a minimum of three varnish coats for protection of the piece.

Come take a look at Studio Seven Arts, these works are brilliant and draw you in
